PUBLIC AFFAIRS

REALTORS® know how important it is to stay informed on current events, policies and issues that directly affect the real estate market and community. They also understand the importance of healthy communities and community involvement. These priorities are reflected in the Public Affairs Department of the San Luis Obispo Association of REALTORS.

Government Affairs

SLOAR is well-respected in the halls and offices of local governments for its responsible involvement in local politics. Our goal is always to protect private property rights and private property values, helping to preserve your ability to earn a living. SLOAOR fights for REALTORS® rights, including opposing mandatory point-of-sale retrofits, the requirement of additional business licenses and burdensome sign ordinances, to give just a few examples. SLOAOR opposes issues that might hinder the business of REALTORS®.

Members support these efforts by investing in the REALTOR® Action Fund (RAF) every year. The RAF is used to support or oppose issues that impact REALTORS® and also to support political candidates who support private property rights and private property values. Investments in 2011 alone raised over $16,000! Thank you, Members!

Community Relations

SLOAOR also highly regards its connection with the community and it shows. Our charity events, from Chili Cook-offs, to Home Makeovers, to our Golf Tournaments…raise much needed funds for charities in our communities.

We have also held two very successful GREEN EXPOs…which were very well attended and written up in the National Association of REALTORS® magazine.

Giving back to the community that we live in is a source of pride and an indicator of how REALTORS® are connected with the community and how they make a difference.

Well aware of the public eye, SLOAOR remains visible in local media. Whether it is on "increased all-cash purchases" or "the turning around of the market," SLOAOR always looks forward to being the connection between the media and San Luis Obispo's most professional REALTORS®. Listen for us on the radio, watch for us on TV, and look for us in the newspaper!

Each month, SLOAOR publishes REALTOR® Edge, a newsletter that is filled with articles about SLOAOR's latest community involvement, the market condition and recent statistics. Anna’s Corner keeps Members abreast with the latest issues with our MLS, while our calendar gives the latest information on the upcoming months’ events. You can also look forward to the insightful and motivating From the President and occasionally your EVP  will chime in. Additionally, the newsletter publishes a list of New Members (yes, people are still joining!) each month. Best of all, the San Luis Obispo REALTOR® is free! Copies are available ONLINE via our website, and they are emailed to our REALTOR members each month.
